Alba refers to Quercus Alba, the type of American white oak used to mature A'Bunadh Alba. Coincidentally, Alba is also the name for Scotland in Scottish Gaelic. It refers to the light colour of the bark of some species. American oaks grow much faster than most European oak species and can live for hundreds of years. Primarily found in eastern North America, American white oak's durability and ability to retain and oxygenate its contents make it suitable for bourbon barrels. American oak is denser and harder than French oak, which makes the barrels less prone to leakage.
