Founded in 1797, the Glen Garioch distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. It is located just outside the town of Oldmeldrum, in the fertile barley plains of Aberdeenshire.
After a period of closure, it was revived in the 1970s. Production has remained constant since then.
A whisky with a dark and mysterious character, which opens with warm notes of walnut skins, buttered raisin bread, and a vein of dark chocolate. A slight hint of struck match floats in the air but remains well-integrated.
The palate gains depth to reveal richer cocoa, raisins macerated in syrup, and a thread of Madagascar vanilla. It lingers on notes of roasted nuts and bittersweet chocolate, slowly fading to leave a gentle and comforting warmth.
