Located in the northeast Highlands, the Teaninich distillery, founded in 1817, is known for producing whiskies mainly destined for Scotland’s famous blends, and for its rare use of a mash filter instead of a traditional mash tun. This 18-year-old single malt, finished in an ex-Pineau des Charentes cask, reveals a rich, indulgent nose: stewed apples, honeyed golden raisins, and a hint of brown sugar, accented by cracked black pepper. The palate balances velvety red fruits and lively spice, where juicy raspberries and strawberries meet the deeper warmth of spiced oak. The finish lingers with a combination of ripe fruit, gentle peppery heat, and a final whisper of fortified wine, delivering a well-balanced and harmonious whisky. This whisky is part of the Odyssey range, an annual collection of 20 carefully selected casks, re-racked for a second maturation of at least three years. Each bottle explores the possibilities of controlled aging, charting a unique journey through the influence of the wood.
