Occasionally, a cask of whisky comes to Berry Bros & Rudd that deserves bottling, even if its origin must remain confidential. Some casks are simply too exceptional to pass by.
This 18-year-old single malt, finished in an ex-Marsala cask, opens with a generous nose of cherry compote, raisins, and dark honey, underpinned by brown sugar and fig syrup. The Marsala cask brings depth and richness, with baked fruits, warm spices, and a hint of candied orange peel. The palate is thick and luxurious, blending dates and stewed fruits with an intense, almost treacle-like sweetness. A touch of water softens its edges, revealing creamy vanilla and a velvety texture. The finish leaves lingering notes of spiced syrup and dried fruit, delivering a powerful whisky overflowing with character.
This whisky is part of the Odyssey range, an annual collection of 20 carefully selected casks, re-racked for a second maturation of at least three years. Each bottle explores the possibilities of controlled aging, charting a unique journey through the influence of the wood.
